“My dyslexia has shaped Virgin right from the very beginning and imagination has been the key to many of our successes”, says Richard Branson.

“The Virgin Group will not ask anyone for their exam results ever again”, Branson told the Made By Dyslexia Global Summit on Monday.

Branson started the charity, Made By Dyslexia, to campaign for a greater awareness of the neurological disorder. Dyslexia affects around one in 10 people’s ability to learn and process information, and therefore negatively affects their exam results.

Making the most of differences

ALS tutor, Paula, recently contacted me with news of the progression of Max Bennett, a former marketing student. Here’s an account of his positive and inspiring work ethic.

 

Since leaving university I have joined the advertising agency RKCR/Y&R. It is one of the largest and most awarded agencies in the UK and its clients include Virgin Atlantic, Marks and Spencer, The BBC, Lloyds Bank, Vodafone (my client) to name a few. I work as an Account Executive and am responsible for dealing with all aspects of different campaigns to ensure that they get delivered on time to budget and that the client is happy with them and the agency.

Remember Liam de la Bedoyere? He was a design student featured on this blog back in the summer. Liam has contacted Ludmila who was his ALS support tutor during his tenure at BU.

Liam writes to say that he has now received confirmation of his all expenses paid trip to Scotland in the new year to present his report on dyslexia and employability. In particular, the Scottish politicians are especially pleased that the report was written by a dyslexic student in the field of design.

Apart from this, Liam is now in full time employment in London in the design industry and has also established his own freelance enterprise to add a little extra to both his CV and his income. Congratulations Liam.
